Team USA Basketball & Court Design

A couple years ago, I wrote a paper in grad school about international basketball and how the shape of the basketball lane changes the way basketball is played and in turn, changes the skills and shape of successful players and successful teams. Watching Team USA this Olympics has (so far) been a nice validation for my theory that the trapezoidal lane shape benefits players with good all-around skills, lessens the effectiveness of a “traditional” big man, and rewards better team play.
